Welcome to another edition of Ringside Politics with Jeff Crouere
Today’s Hot Topics:
1) White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Tuesday criticized most mainstream media for its hypocritical coverage of the Hunter Biden scandal by insisting it was “Russian disinformation” until it emerged last week that President-elect Joe Biden’s son is the subject of a federal tax probe.
At a briefing Tuesday afternoon, McEnany noted how many newsrooms had dramatically changed their tune after ignoring a New York Post expose in October that exclusively reported on emails from Hunter Biden that now are at the center of a federal probe.
“Interesting pre-election and post-election coverage too on the Hunter Biden scandal which was not covered at all by many outlets in the lead-up to the election,” McEnany told reporters after condemning their handling of the Rep. Eric Swalwell Chinese spy controversy.
2) Press secretary Kayleigh McEnany scolded the media on Tuesday for overlooking scandals surrounding Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., and Hunter Biden.
McEnany noted that President Trump’s Middle East peace deals haven’t received significant coverage by the mainstream media but told viewers they shouldn’t be surprised at this point.
“In the last 24, 48 hours there have been quite a few stories that have not gotten a ton of coverage in the mainstream media, as former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer said, ‘Bias is often found in the stories the press does not cover,'” McEnany said before citing recent examples.
3) President-elect Joe Biden has now spoken with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) after the Republican leader acknowledged his election win for the first time.
Biden announced on Tuesday that he had a "good conversation" with McConnell and thanked him for offering his congratulations following the outcome of the November election. McConnell acknowledged Biden as the president-elect earlier on Tuesday after the Electoral College affirmed his win more than a month following Election Day.
"I told him although we disagree on a lot of things, there's things we can work together on," Biden said. "We've always been straight with one another. And we agreed we'd get together sooner than later, and I'm looking forward to working with him."
This was the first conversation between Biden and McConnell to take place since the election, ABC News' Johnny Verhovek notes.4) A California sheriff has blasted Gov. Gavin Newsom's "flat-out ridiculous" stay-at-home COVID order as he joins a host of county law enforcement officials pushing back against the latest restrictions.
Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco said that his office will not be "blackmailed, bullied or used as muscle" against residents to enforce Newsom's corona virus order.
Newsom announced on Thursday that the number of available intensive care beds in four out of five regions would drop to fewer than 15 percent within days.
